Student Reports London

Day 1 (Sunday, July the first): Arrival
Sunday, we went to Ede-Wageningen Station to get the train to Nijmegen, from where we, with two changes got to Bruxelles midi-Zuid, from where we took the Eurostar to London St. Pancras station. From there on to the residence two of the Nightingale students guided us through the subways. As dinnertime arrived we went to Wetherspoon pub, located near the residence. There we had traditional Fish&Chips. After that it was time to ready or rooms, chill out, and eventually go to sleep.
Day 2 (Monday): Opening Ceremony + free afternoon
The first full day of this week started with a small breakfast. One croissant and a black or white tea. After this breakfast we got on the bus towards the school in our pre-assigned groups. At the school we first got a tour, showing us the various parts of the Nightingale academy. After the school tour we were able to enjoy a tremendously beautiful show by the host students and staff showcasing extremely well-prepared acts, for every country one. After this introduction, we had to present our view on the past three years of hard work on the Erasmus project. After all countries had finished we had a joined lunch in the cafeteria of the school. Thereafter we headed back in the same groups. We had the afternoon of, so we played a lot of pool in the residence. As a dinner location the staff had chosen Kervan Sofrasi, which is a very nice Turkish restaurant chain in London.
Day 3 (Tuesday): Orienteering + boat party
On Tuesday morning we had an orienteering tour through London which was a lot of walking and sightseeing of course. This tour continued till after lunch, which we had in a park in central London. After the end of the orienteering tour we got on a boat, where a beginning DJ from nightingale smashed down a sick beat, and while navigating or way up and down the Thames river, we had dinner, and a party on the boat. At 9pm we were back at the starting point and got of the boat. From there we went straight back to the residence, chilled outside for a bit, and then went to bed.
Day 4 (Wednesday): City of London finance tour
On day for we visited the actual City of London, which is a square mile within London where the finance centre of London is located. This is also the spot where the oldest part of London is located. The tour itself was quite interesting, although it went on for quite a while. After the Guided tour we went back to the residence. After an hour of free time we went to see a movie, during this the teachers went to see a play in the theatre, after which they went to a fancy restaurant, and we got loads of pizza. After that we had the evening off, so we just chilled at the residence until we went to bed.
Day 5 (Thursday): Final business presentations + gala dinner and party
On Thursday we had our final business plan presentation in the Westminster county hall in central London. Our presentation went very well in my opinion. After all countries had presented their business ideas a team of three experts from the start-up helper 7 billion Ideas discussed over lunch which team won which category. After lunch there was a great celebration for all the innovative ideas, and the winners of every category were announced. We (Dutch team) managed to get the best Finance plan price. After that we went back to the residence, from where we departed three hours later to the grand palace banqueting suite in wood green. There we had a very nice Buffet, after which a gala party was in order. Before the buffet started by the way, there was a performance of a play, which in my opinion was very entertaining. It was about the life and plays of Britain’s greatest playmaker Shakespeare.
Day 6 (Friday): Farewell + free afternoon & evening
As the last full day in London began we went back to the school to listen to some speeches, and get a goodie bag which contained various items, for example, a usb-stick with an after movie from this week, a pencil, a pen, soap made by nightingale students, etc. after this we got lunch at the school, and went back to the residence. The rest of the afternoon we spent at the residence, because we (Dutch team) were the only team not allowed to travel back by public transport to central. As dinner we (again Dutch team) went to a really nice restaurant located next to the kervan where we ate on day 2. There we had pizza and drinks. After which we returned to the residence to pack up our bags.
Day 7 (Saturday): final goodbye and trip back
On day 7 we left the residence straight after breakfast, to get the tube to St. Pancras station. From where we took the Eurostar back to Bruxxels-midi/zuid. From there on we took various trains, to finally arrive at Ede-Wageningen again. After a week full of ups and downs, which has been an absolute amazing experience. If ever a project like this would happen again while I am still at my school, I’d be really humbled.
This is my report. To explain, I had already typed it in Dutch for another report and couldn't
be bothered to manually translate it. So, I headed on over to the INTERNET and had it
automatically translated for me. Turns out, however, that the translator I picked didn't
translate text from Dutch to English, but from Dutch to gibberish. I hope gibberish will be
enough, but just in case it isn't, I will be including the Dutch version (with pictures) as well.
On Sunday 1 July, we arrived with the train in London. And then we went through the Tube
(subway) to the place of residence. We ate fish chips in Wetherspoon pub. The opening
ceremony on the Nightingale Academy took place on Monday 2 July. And we got a tour of
the school first, and it was illustrated well how cardboard and tubular it was— and there
was in the halls at short intervals, posters on which the students were not able to see, on
the walls, they had to see, on the walls, the great denial of "big thinkers," and the rest of
them. The walls were covered with students made by students to see how fun their favorite
school was. The school was a lot less cheap than the Pallas Athens College. This was
mainly due to the beautiful equipment in the technology room, the expensive imacs in the
library and the cafeteria with paid staff and decent food.
The opening ceremony started with a song in each of the languages of the participating
countries, where it was danced or danced. Then each country had to give a reminder of
their time with the exchange programme. I personally found it remarkable that every
foreign team had remained the same throughout the programme and had been to each of
the exchange countries. This was not the case in the Netherlands. On Tuesday 3 July, we
traveled London to get some of the beautiful places there. We did this on foot and on the
subway. During the tour I visited the National Gallery, where I noticed that many painters
from the 17 th and 18 th centuries painted Greek and Latin mythologists. A good illustration
of the obsession with the classical old age. Even the building itself is built in classic style,
with columns and triangular roofs.
We also saw the palace of the royal house of England and we went along the Thames.
During the stroke along the banks of the Thames, remarkably many net blazers were
seen. These are men who immersed a big net in bellowing bladder to then pull up the wind
so that an abundance of calls comes from the grid. Tuesday 3 July ended with a party on a
boat flying over the Thames. Personally, I found the 140 db to bad summer music that,
through and over the entire boat, was galenical, but many people didn't seem to agree with
me. When I finally decided to get a drink around the second hour of the four and a half
hours that I had to spend in total on the boat, the bartender had a brown brown liquid with
a shower button. And after I drank it, I found out that "laughing water happened to be a bit
of Coke in the same boat as Coke" on this boat of nightmares. I spent most of the time
reading the Hitchhiker guide to the galaxy series by Douglas Adams. The next day,
Wednesday 4 July, was spent on a tour by the financial centre of London. During this tour,
we were guided by an old man who said a lot of things at a audible distance, but to whom
nobody really listened. And we saw that in London's financial centre, many interesting
buildings were formed, like "The Gherkin", "The Cheese Grater" and "The Scalpel." After
this tour, we went to a film so mediocre and average that its title will not be mentioned in
this report. Thursday 5 July was the only day when something important happened,
because these were the final presentations of each country. Details of the content of each
business plan will follow later in the report. Westminster County Hall The presentations
took place in Westminster County Hall and were somewhat interesting to listen to,
depending on the business idea and skill in the English language of the presenters.
Following the presentations, a number of prices were distributed each of which had
different categories. I didn't keep it, but as far as I know there were nine prices, so one
price more than there were exchange countries. So it is not by chance that, as far as I
have kept it, each country was given one prize, while one country got two. Probably David
Harkin, the CEO of 7 billionideas, would not disappoint anyone. He and some of the seven
billionaire ideas listened to our presentations and offered prices. The Netherlands
apparently won the price for Best Financial Plan. After the presentations, there was a gala.
I expected a repeat of the bodyboat on the River Thames, but this isn't exactly what
happened. There was a theatre show that was not very remarkable, and we got food. After
dinner, music was raised, this time on normal volume, and the whole galvanising room was
immersed in constantly changing colour. There was the social expectation that I was going
to dance, just like this was on the boilboat. Unfortunately my escorts had taken me down
my book, so I was forced to find entertainment elsewhere. And eventually, in a total of
about 25 minutes, this resulted in dance, which also produced a film that was about 13
seconds from this terrible sight. Around the end of the evening, there was also an
attractive paved cake, which ended the official part of Y 2 BE. On the last day, Friday 6
July, there was a final ceremony during which a video summary of the last week was
displayed and karaoke was saddled. We got a goose bag and the chance to say goodbye
to our foreign friends. Since I didn't have foreign friends, the ceremony for me was pretty
smooth. On Saturday 7 July, we travelled back to the Netherlands
My week in London
First of all I want to say that it was an amazing week. I enjoyed it soooo much! I think that everybody enjoyed it!! We had an amazing week together and we learned more about each other and our countries. And of course about London.
This amazing week started for me on Sunday. We went with the train from station Ede-Wageningen to Brussel. We went through customs and then we took the Eurostar to London. It is so funny to see the difference between all the countries by train. We travelled through Belgium, France and of course England. When we arrived there were 2 students who waited for us. They were very nice and we went with them by tube to the residence.
The next day we went to Nightingale academy! It was a very big school and very beautiful. At Nightingale academy we had the opening ceremony! It was so nice to see people dance and sing on songs from every country. After that we had the opening ceremonies. During the opening ceremonies everybody told about their journey through the countries.
On Tuesday we went to the sights of London. I’ve been to London before but still for me the experience was so different from my first visit to London. I liked the Trafalgar square the most where I have never been before. We had some free time to see the museum and to explore the square. In the evening we had the amazing boat party!! People were dancing and singing and we sailed along beautiful buildings and the London bridge! It was so nice to see all the people sing, dance and talk with each other. During this boat party you really get to know each other.
On Wednesday we went to the financial district of London. I didn’t like it that much but it was nice to see all those big buildings and hear some stories about the history of London. In the evening we went to the move Jurassic World, fallen kingdom! I really wanted to see the movie so I was so happy to see the movie with those people. After the movie we got some delicious pizza.
And then came the most important day of this week, Thursday! I was a little bit nervous for the presentation but everybody was so relaxed during the presentations so I wasn’t nervous at all during our presentation! The presentations were very good prepared by all the country’s and I just want to say “well done everybody!”. We had lunch and after that we had the award ceremony. We won the award for the best financial plan! We are so honoured to win this amazing award! We are so proud of it! After that we went back to the residence to change clothes to get to the gala! My most favourite moment this week was the gala!! I loved it so much! When we arrived at the gala. We were surprised that it was so beautiful! It was so nice and so chiq! Everybody was so nicely dressed and the Shakespeare play was very good. The players were really passionate. After the play we had a delicious buffet. The DJ played awesome music and everybody danced and sang!( It felt like we were friends for more than 10 years! We were so close at that moment!)
And then the last day, Friday L. We went to the school for the goodbye ceremony. The movie was so well made! I’m going to show it to my family when I’m coming home because it is important to share all those beautiful moments with my family! And then the goodbye momentsL. It wasn’t nice to say goodbye to everybody. I really liked this week a lot and I think I’m going to miss everybody.
Now I’m writing this in the train back to the Netherlands and when I’m thinking about all these moments I can only say “thank you”. Thanks to everybody who made this week possible! To all the teachers, students, organisation, and all the other people who made this the most beautiful week! I will never forget the people who I met this week and I want to thank the students for making the evenings so funny, by looking at the football games, poolmoments, card plays and all the other moments where you all made me laughJ Now I really need to stop writing because I have to catch up on some sleep. Have a good trip to all your country’s and I hope to see you all soon! Goodbye, Au revoir, do widzenia, la revedere, adios, güle güle, zbogom and tot ziens!

We aten als avondeten fish and chips.

Wow what was this an amazing week. I met a lot of amazing people!
Sunday: We arrived at the residence in Wood Green. Shortly after that we were going to eat at Wheterspoon a pub where we had fish 'n chips and some soda. The food was really good and I even saw some people I already knew because of Paris. When we got back at the residence we got our stuff out and put in our closets. Afterwards we came down and played some games of pool. These were my first games and I learned a lot about the game.
Monday: We had breakfast at a café at the corner of the street. After that we gathered around at the car park of the residence to go to Nightingale Academy.
When we got to school we got something to eat and drink and talked. Also we got a tour of the school. I was amazed by the equipement and all the classrooms. There is a lot in the school that we do not have (especially in the tech room). When this was done we had Erasmusvision what a singing and dancing programme was. All the countrys had one song to put on and students of Nightingale made a dance on it or sang. The starting presentations were after this and were about the whole project of Erasmus+ and Y2BE. Next to this we got back to the residence and had some free time. At 19.00h we got off to get to the Turkish restaurant of Kervan in the middle of Wood Green.
Tuesday: We got a sightseeing tour through London. We saw Piccadilly Circus , Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, etc.
After we saw all this and made some pictures we got off and went to the Vallula Boat for a river cruise, dinner and Party. We had a party at the boat and it was really amazing and fun. The DJ was pretty good and even turned on some slow songs. When this happened I asked a girl to dance and it was really fun. When we got back to the residence we talked a lot and decided we liked each other very much.
Wednesday: We went to the bank center of London. We got a tour around this and we saw some interesting buildings and got some history London.
We ate at Paternoter Square and got some free time, so we could buy some things and eat by ourselves. In the afternoon we went to the Vue cinema to see Jurassic world. After the movie we got Pizza at the residence.
Thursday: We had the last presentations. These were in Westminster County Hall in Central London, close to the London Eye. I think all the presentations were quite good. It was amazing that everyone got to win something. We got back to the residence and had spare time to get ready for the gala at Grand Palace Banqueting Suite. This was a really fancy building, I was overwhelmed by it. When we got in we had dinner and theatre play of
shakespear. Afterwards we had a party.
Friday: This was a sad day. We had the closing ceremony and had to say farewell. I didn't like this and I even cried over some people. During the ceremony we saw some photo's, there were some people singing and we had a closing film of the whole week.
